“Why could we not cast it out?” Matthew 17:19

Today’s Gospel (Matthew 17:14-23) is about a miracle Jesus performed right after the Transfiguration. Jesus returned with three of His disciples to find the others unable to cast out a demon from a boy.

This story shows us that we can’t handle life’s problems without God. Only Jesus can save us. So, having faith that connects us to Jesus is very important.

The Apostle Paul says we get faith by hearing God’s Word. By attentive listening, faith enters our hearts.

The heart symbolizes the center of our spiritual being, our soul, where our mind and will are. This is where our faith and beliefs are formed. To accept and grow our faith, we need to work with God. We have the dignity and calling to work with God.

Prayer and fasting indicate the need for your effort to make space for God in our lives. To include God in our living space. To give room for God to act in us and through us.

To do this, we have important tools such as reading and listening to the Word of God, regular prayer, participation in the holy sacraments, studying the content of the faith, and participating in the church community under spiritual guidance.

Beloved in Christ, let us trust in God and grow in faith.
