As we gather in fellowship and faith, our beloved Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands as a beacon of hope, love, and Ukrainian community in Miami. It is a sacred space that has nurtured our spiritual journeys, celebrated our joys, and comforted us in times of sorrow.

However, our cherished church is facing a pressing challenge that calls for our collective support and generosity. The roof, which has sheltered us for many years, is now in urgent need of replacement due to wear and tear, as it is causing recurring leaks and damages.

The last time the roofs of all our parish buildings, including the church, were replaced was in 2005 after the devastating Hurricane Wilma.

Unfortunately, over the past few years, we have been forced to patch up the church roof annually due to leaks in various places. During this time, our insurance company Catholic Mutual Group, has partially compensated for these repairs twice, but considering the difference in deductibles, the parish has also had to spend its own funds on constant repairs. Because the church structure is tall, such repairs always cost more compared to repairs of single-story buildings.

After the recent leak and repair in November 2023, we again approached the insurance company for compensation. Based on their roof inspection, the insurance company concluded that the cause of the leaks is the age of the roof, meaning natural wear and tear. Therefore, we will not receive compensation from them.

Consequently, our Parish must replace the roof at its own expense. We have started the process of obtaining the Permit from the City to replace the current shingle roof with a new metal roof through the company On Time Roofing. The company provides a 12-years warranty on the work done, and the lifespan of the metal roof is around 50 years. The roof replacement will cost $49,200.00, and new gutters will cost $5,140.00. Besides these fixed costs, there might be additional expenses depending on the amount of replacing rotten wooden parts of the structure.
