“Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” Luke 5:10
Today’s Gospel takes us to the Lake of Gennesaret, where Jesus is with the fishermen, the ones He chose as His disciples.
These fishermen use nets in their daily work. Through the miraculous catch of fish, Jesus draws our attention to fishing nets. These nets as a symbol, not just of their cooperation and work, but also of our lives and relationships in Christ.
For those of us living in the age of social networks, this symbolism might be even easier to understand. Nets remind us of the network of our relationships with each other. We are made in the image and likeness of God, as persons, meaning individuals in relationship with others. Our relationships with God and with others are essential for our life and happiness.
We are called to cultivate relationships of love. Just like nets, we should be connected to each other in love, faith, and hope, helping and supporting each other through challenges.
These connections let God’s grace flow, allowing Jesus Christ to work in our world.
Everything we do and say should be filled with love and truth, so our networks can spread life and light.
Beloved in Christ,
Let’s build our relationships responsibly. Let’s build the community of God’s Kingdom through the example and witness of faith in our daily lives. Our Sunday liturgical and Eucharistic gathering, and the proclamation of God’s Word, guide us to bring the joy of Christ’s Gospel to the world around us. Amen.
