Sunday before Christmas.
Glory to Jesus Christ!
Today’s Gospel (Мт. 1:1-25) prepares us for the celebration of the Birth of Christ, tells us of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, and reminds us of the history of the expectation of the coming of the Messiah.
Many generations waited the coming of the Savior; the one who was to return real dignity and freedom to humanity.
The anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ was not a passive waiting around; everyone have their mission to accomplish. The well done works of everyone were and are necessary in the history of salvation.
God, as a loving Father, leads us all patiently on the road to salvation. He trusts people. He gives us a second chance, after faithlessness or a fall. He aids us in times of doubt, He gives us His strength when human power fails.
The Lord knows each of us by name and calls us to be active in His plan to build God’s Kingdom today.
Unlike the generations that awaited the coming of Jesus Christ, we have the grace to live with Him, to listen to His words; to confess our sins, to partake of the Holy Eucharist, to imitate Him with our own deeds of mercy. In and through His Church, we are called along with Jesus Christ, to be active in building a civilization of love.
Let us strive that our celebration of Christmas be centered on the person of Jesus Christ. Amen
